This impressive three-bedroom holiday home is currently being renovated and will soon be ready to welcome guests to the heart of the picturesque village of Lanchester. Designed to be a peaceful and stylish sanctuary, the perfect base for your next getaway.
Church View has been meticulously designed to blend its historical charm with contemporary comfort. The inviting lounge will feature a media wall, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing evening in, whether you’re enjoying a film or a board game with your loved ones. The home's heart will be a luxurious, open-plan kitchen and diner, complete with a central island and a beautiful range cooker—perfect for creating delicious meals together. Patio doors will lead out to a small, private courtyard, offering a tranquil space for a morning coffee or an evening drink. A convenient downstairs WC will also be included.
Upstairs, the luxury will continue. The main bathroom will offer a spa-like escape with a freestanding bath and a spacious walk-in shower, complemented by luxury toiletries. The master bedroom, with its king-size bed and en-suite shower room, will provide a private haven. The two additional comfortable double bedrooms will make Church View a fantastic option for families or groups of up to six people.
A Village Built on Roman History
Lanchester's story is deeply rooted in its Roman past. The village's name is a nod to the fort, Longovicium, a major military outpost established in the 2nd century AD on Dere Street, the main Roman road to Hadrian's Wall. While the fort’s main remains are on private land, their legacy is visible in the 12th-century All Saints' Parish Church, where columns from the fort were used in its construction. Today, visitors can explore this history on foot, by walking the old Roman thoroughfare of Dere Street or following local footpaths that take you past the fort’s remains and the ancient Roman stones still found in the landscape.
Lanchester today is a perfect blend of peaceful countryside and vibrant village life, offering a wonderful contrast to its ancient past. The disused railway line has been transformed into the Lanchester Valley Railway Path, a flat and scenic route that's ideal for relaxing walks and easy cycling.
Beyond its history and beautiful trails, the village is a hub of activity. Just a short stroll from your holiday let, you’ll find a selection of local pubs, eateries, and shops. From delicious Italian food to a spot for pampering, there’s something for everyone.
The King's Head and The Royal Oak: Both traditional pubs offering a warm welcome, with a focus on delicious pub classics and popular Sunday roasts.
Ravello Ristorante: A popular Italian restaurant known for its high-quality, fresh food.
Crinnions Bar & Restaurant: A great choice for locally sourced produce, complete with a dog-friendly covered courtyard and a large, sunny garden area.
Explore the Cathedral City of Durham
Church View will also be the perfect launchpad for exploring the historic city of Durham, just a short drive away. Durham is a vibrant city renowned for its stunning Durham Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a breathtaking example of Norman architecture. The city's cobbled streets are perfect for exploring, with a mix of charming independent shops, a bustling indoor market, and modern shopping centres. When evening arrives, Durham's nightlife comes alive with everything from traditional pubs and sophisticated cocktail bars to lively music venues.
We can’t wait to share more updates as Church View gets closer to completion. We’re confident that this beautiful home will become a favourite for many of our guests looking for a luxurious and relaxing base to explore everything the North East has to offer.
